Who is Jesus Christ?

To me Jesus is a great teacher and I smile when I read that Buddhists agree with me. However I believe that Jesus is more important than Buddha. When researching Muslim beliefs I find that they state Jesus Christ was a man below Mohammed in importance. As I continue to search, I find that Christian Scientists say Christ was an outstanding man and great teacher. Jews accept Jesus as a teacher of ethics as well. Hindus recognize Christ as one of many incarnations while Jehovah’s Witnesses say that Christ was God’s first creations. With so many opinions swirling the Internet, the question remains who is Jesus to you? Is Jesus the greatest religious leader, the most influential person, or Savior and Lord? I believe that Jesus is the greatest religious leader. God himself spoke from heaven that Jesus is His Son with whom He was well pleased.

But Is Jesus Christ God?

The Bible states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.  In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.  The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1:1 – 5
Jesus was with God from the beginning. When God spoke the universe into existence, Jesus was there performing God’s will. We are not used to a person being the “word.” But it makes sense to me because Jesus does God’s will. He performs the actions that pleases God. God spoke and Jesus acted. Jesus is life. Jesus is the light of the world. Even Jesus revealed his relationship with God from before the world began in his prayer below:
And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed. John 17:5
When Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father, He stated that He had been glorified with The Father before the world existed.
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.  And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and firstborn from among the dead, so that in all things He may have preeminence.  For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:15 – 20

But Was Jesus the Son of God?

So Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself, unless He sees the Father doing it. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does. John 5:19
If it the Father wills it, then Jesus does it even to the point of death. Jesus willingly gave up His life here on earth so that our sins could be forgiven. He lived a perfect life without sin. Something no one else ever has accomplished. Because He was sinless, The shedding of his blood washes away all the world’s impurities once and for all. No other sacrifices are required. We don’t have to live a sinless life. We can try, but it can’t be done. I know because I’ve tried. And even once that you accept Christ to help you overcome sin, you still won’t be completely sinless. Because even an unkind thought or worry is a sin. Anything that breaks one of God’s commands is a sin. But when we confess with our mouth that Jesus is our Savior, and turn away from our sins then we will be forgiven. Jesus died on the cross, but he didn’t remain dead. After 3 days, He revealed himself to His followers, friends, and family. Those who had doubted and refused to accept the necessity of His death, believed when they saw his scarred hands.

So the Jews gathered around Him and demanded, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

“I already told you,” Jesus replied, “but you did not believe. The works I do in My Father’s name testify on My behalf. But because you are not My sheep, you refuse to believe. My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:24 – 30

But we don’t have the luxury of seeing Jesus physically like His disciples until we reach our heavenly home. But as a young girl, Jesus revealed Himself to me. To me Jesus is the calm in the storm. A strong hand to pull me out of any pit. His name is blessed, a sacred word to call out in true need. Jesus is Christ, the Son of God. A Divine being and a mortal man who has everlasting life because He is life. Jesus is a friend so you’re never alone. He is Holy, just, and my King. He is perfect peace, righteousness, and salvation. Jesus speaks truth because He is the Word of God who pierces the darkness. He is the light of the world.

Who is Jesus to you?

I hope you feel comfortable enough to share in the comments who Jesus is to you. If you’ve never taken the time to reflect about who Christ is, I encourage you to spend time answering this question. If you’ve never heard Lauren’s song about who Jesus is to her, you are in for a real treat. I hope you have a few moments to listen to Lauren Daigle’s song, Light of the World as you reflect on who Jesus is to you.

  1. Jesus is my rescuer, the Messiah, God’s son who died to bring us all back into a relationship with God because of God’s immense love for us. Jesus is the light of the world who sheds his light on truth. Jesus is love reaching out to grasp our hand and embrace us with his love. 💜
