Rewriting Psalms Into Prayers

I love reading the Psalms and then adapting it to fit my life’s or world’s circumstances. You too can read David’s Psalms and rewrite the phrases. Keep what matches and change words to align it with your own feelings and situation. Below are prayers that I wrote based on the Psalms.

But before you read you may enjoy listening to the tune of “A Dove On Distant Oaks” which David’s Psalm 56 was originally sung to.

My favorite verses from Psalm 56

Be merciful to me, O God,

When I am afraid,
I put my trust in You.

In God, whose word I praise—

in God I trust.
I will not be afraid.

In God, whose word I praise,
in the LORD, whose word I praise,

in God I trust; I will not be afraid.
I will render thank offerings to You.

For You have delivered my soul from death,
and my feet from stumbling,

that I may walk before God
in the light of life.

I Lift My Eyes Up (Psalm 121) – Brian Doerksen

My Favorite Verses from Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?

My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to slip;
your Protector will not slumber.

Behold, the Protector of Israel
will not slumber or sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is the shade on your right hand.

The sun will not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The LORD will guard you from all evil;
He will preserve your soul.

The LORD will watch over your coming and going,
both now and forevermore.

My favorite verses from Psalm 17

Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea;
listen to my cry.

Give ear to my prayer—
it comes from lips free of deceit.

May Your eyes see what is right.
You have tried my heart;

You have visited me in the night.
I call on You, O God,
for You will answer me.

Incline Your ear to me;
hear my words.

Show the wonders of Your loving devotion,
to those who seek refuge.

Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
hide me in the shadow of Your wings

As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness;
when I awake, I will be satisfied in Your presence.

You who save by Your right hand
