Standing in line at the Publix grocery store, the little girl’s hand reached for the Hershey bar.
Her mom’s piercing eyes stared down like a laser beam. Her shaking head reminded her not to ask for the chocolaty goodness.
The little girl’s head dropped and she struggled between asking for the candy and her fear of a certain NO.
Week after week to the grocery store taught the little girl not to ask for items. Sometimes when her hand did not reach out, she would receive a delightful surprise.
So when the little girl grows up and reads Joshua 15: 19, Ascah seems to be a bit greedy when she asks for a blessing.
Wow, Her father gave her fields and now she is asking for more!
First she received land and now she asks for springs of water. Seems like a big no- no to me!
Read Joshua 15:19 for yourself:
Give me a blessing,” she replied. “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.”

I don’t know about you but something deep within my soul desires for more. I own all that I need, but my hand is constantly reaching out for….
A closer connection with my Lord, Jesus Christ,
A vibrant prayer life,
More time to read my bible,
A stronger marriage,
More family time,
A healthier lifestyle,
A job where I can work from home on my own schedule.
But no matter how much I receive, I always crave more!
Life has plenty to enjoy.
But I’m still hungry after the Oreo package is empty. My hand still reaches for another Coke after the first can. No job ever satisfies my ever-growing ambition.
And I sadly suspect if my secret dream came to fruition, even that would not satisfy my insatiable hunger.
I’m always thirsty for more. Always looking for the next thing just beyond my finger tips.
What about you?
Think back to a much happier day.
Were you dreaming about a future that would be better?
Yeah, me too!
Is that being greedy? Or is that craving from God?
Let’s return to Achsah in Joshua 15:19. Let’s look more closely at her life by looking at the picture below.
I see her life really was dry and barren. She wasn’t asking for springs of water out of greed, but out of necessity. She needed water to drink, to grow crops, and for cleansing.
And so do we.
And even in these strange days of social distancing and working from home, water is still a necessity. Hand-washing has never been so popular as it is now during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Not only does water cleanse us, but it sustains our life.
We can’t live without it.
We must drink water to live and there is one true God who is offering to give you a drink. A drink that will satisfy you today and forever more.
But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.
John 4:14 NLT
Eternal life doesn’t start when you die. Eternal life begins the day you accept Jesus Christ to be your LORD and Savior.
And if you’ve never asked Jesus to be your Savior, you can do that today. The prayer doesn’t save you. It’s when your Heavenly Father hears you asking. He sees you reaching out and He is pleased to answer.
Four things to Receive Christ
- Admit your need. “I am a sinner.”
2. Repent and be willing to turn away from your sin.
3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross.
4. Receive through prayer Jesus Christ into your daily life.
Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord will be saved.
Romans 10:13
In every Christian’s life there is a moment when we reach for our Heavenly Father and the Divine Christ. Jesus brings us into a new life and awakens within us the craving of a pure and holy life.
New things… We never even desired before.
And for the first time….We feel full.
Our hunger is satisfied by the bread of Life who is Jesus. Our thirst is satisfied by the living God.
And guess what?
God loves to fulfill our requests, to bless us by adding on to whatever deficiency exists in our life.
God is a good father and loves to open His hand when He hears his children’s’ cries especially if it is a spiritual desire.
Do you remember the moment when God revealed to you that Christ is the answer to your soul’s deepest desire?
When He promised to be your contentment in this crazy world?
Our Challenge
This week whenever we wash our hands, remember to ask for a blessing from the Lord. Let’s be like Ascah and ask boldly for what we need. Healing from this COVID 19 is on my heart. What’s on yours?
Can We Pray Together?
Heavenly Father, We have sinned in our thoughts and the words that we spoke today. Forgive us Lord for complaining about the hardships in social isolation. We believe Christ died for our sins and we thank you for rising from the dead. We are turning away from our sinful actions and ask You to come into our lives. Teach us to trust you always. Lead us as our Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, We pray. Amen.

Abide in Christ's Love 
This was a very Inspirational read that came at a good time today! While I am struggling with the anxiety and worry of the coronavirus and how it might affect my family, I am also worrying about a good friend’s husband who has been hospitalized since early January with severe side effects of pneumonia. I ask God to reach down and strengthen this man so that he can heal all his afflictions and finally go home.

Lifting up all our anxiety and worry to our Heavenly Father who hears our prayers helps to remove my anxiety. God is not surprised by all that is happening but He is faithful to His good promises.
