A few years ago, I tried this and it actually took me much longer than that one year. Which is perfectly acceptable because each chapter was read at the time that I needed to reflect on it.
But I did finish a few months ago and am joining a group of woman who are committed to reading through the bible in one year too!
Genesis 1 – 4 is a great reminder of the many things that God has done for us. Check out the list below of all our blessings:
1. The heavens and the earth
2. Day and night
3. water and sky
4. Dry land and seas
5. Seed bearing trees
6. Sun, moon, and stars
7. Living sea creatures and birds
8. Wild animals for dry land
9. He created us in his own image!
I especially love how the LORD God planted a garden in the east and placed man there. And even when Eve was deceived by the serpent and disobeyed God, He still provided for them. The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them ( cuz seriously they needed help, I mean fig leaves for clothes???).
And I especially love how God still provided for Eve even after she was banished from the Garden of Eden. For Eve said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man (Genesis 4: 1).”
Even though they no longer lived in Eden, the LORD was still looking upon them. He looked up them with favor when they did what was right. And He even warned Cain “But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it (Genesis 4: 6).”
This is a great reminder of all our blessings and how the LORD is till with us when we royally mess up our lives. But the Lord is still with us looking upon us with favor when we do what is right. And warning us to master sin. With God’s help we can master sin.
